How Grandma’s Sunlit Courtyard Became Chatkara Store
Growing up in Varanasi and Bihar, summer vacations were announced by the intoxicating aroma of roasted fenugreek, yellow mustard, and pure Kachi Ghani mustard oil drifting from rooftop terraces.
Rows of white ceramic martabans covered with thin muslin cloth were lined up under the bright Indian sun. Every afternoon, Dadi would gently turn the pickle with a dry neem-wood spoon, letting the sunlight work its slow, magical fermentation.
Alongside pickles, tea-time meant fresh batches of crispy Atta Nimki, authentic Thekua prasad, and flaky Kasuri Methi Mathri. Chatkara Store was born to preserve these unadulterated flavors with dignity.
